Decorating Your Bedroom
The bedroom is a sanctuary which offers a place for relaxation, comfort and recuperation. As the most private room in the house, you are free to indulge yourself with an individual and sumptuous design. Indeed, by combining colours, textiles and furniture, you can create a distinctive retreat.
Perhaps the foremost aspect to design your bedroom around is colour. For a luxurious bedroom with dramatic undertones, reds, aubergines, turquoises and chocolate colours can look smart teamed with white accessories. Furniture is another important component in designing a bedroom. For those with a lot of possessions of the shoe and handbag variety, fitted bedroom furniture can provide a stylish storage solution that takes up as little space as possible, fitting in with the shape of your room. For those who enjoy a more eclectic mix of furniture, going down to your local antiques shop or salvage yard, may provide some individual gems, to accessorize with kitsch belongings. Textiles and accessories provide the heart of a bedroom and add personality to any design. For bed linen, curtains and cushions, a variety of fabrics are available from cottons to silks. When choosing your fabrics, ensure they are materials you will want to touch and curl up in. Comfort and luxury is the key to a opulent room, so avoid man-made fabrics like polyester.
Accessories add to the theme of a room and help you to contextualise your own style. For country chic, use floral drawer liners, Cath Kidson-esque framed fabrics and white vintage lamps, mirrors and candles. Meanwhile, for a modern, minimalistic theme, go easy on the accessories, choosing the bare essentials, such as a funky clock, chunky statement vase and plenty of storage boxes to hide any clutter. For natural eco-friendly themes, choose accessories incorporating bamboo, leather, wood, plants and fair trade metals.
