Save Big Bucks On Men’S Clothing

Have you ever noticed in a department store how the men’s clothing section is always located next to an entrance/exit?  By comparison, if you want to get to the ladies clothing you have to first walk past a bunch of other stuff usually perfume and cosmetics.  The reason that the men’s clothing is near an entrance is because men want to get in and get out.  Shopping for clothes is not the sport it is for women.

And it can be painful.  When a guy knows he needs a new dress shirt but then sees $45 on the price tag his brain automatically converts that to a round of golf and two beers.  You want to look good but it’s a constant battle between spending the money on clothes or something that you can enjoy right now.

Inevitably that will lead to at least one trip to the discount clothing stores where you’ll spend three times the amount of time scrounging through jam packed racks of stuff you would never buy in search of that one gem at half price.  Then you take your prize to the checkout aisle and stand in line with all the Moms and their crying kids.  And some people wonder why we hate shopping for clothes.

So what’s the answer to this dilemma?  Well the obvious answer is to shop online.  There are any number of overstock sites, manufacturers’ sites and even retail sites who sell cheaper online than they do in their stores.    If you’re careful, you can save some serious coin like 25% to 50% off shopping this way but there are a few things you need to be aware of.

First of all, all sizes are not created equal.  When your garment comes in a S, M, L or XL know that each manufacturer has their own idea of just what that is.  A classic example is Ashworth golf shirts.  Now these are fantastic high quality shirts and if you can find a bargain on these you’ve hit the lotto.  But if you normally wear a Large, and you order a Large from Ashworth, all you’re going to need are two wooden poles and you’ll be able to use your new shirt to host a tent revival.  The cut is huge.  Conversely another pricy manufacturer, Robert Graham has a smaller cut and you need to order one size larger than normal.  Oh, and this pricy shirt is almost always on sale at Amazon.

If you have a brand you know, then you should have little problem finding the price you want for men’s clothing on the internet.  Now wasn’t that easy?

Dress Shirts for Skinny Guy?

I am 23, 5′11, 140 pounds. I have broad shoulders and long arms. I wear 29W/32L pants. Every dress shirt I have ever had is either too big around or too short in the sleeves. The shirt will poof out in the back due to my broad shoulders and will crumple up around the waist when tucked in. The closest I have found are Van Heusen Fitted shirts, but even they are too big around. Are there any stores or brands that carry something better? I recently got into grad school and there is a dress code for class so I need to find some stuff that fits better.

Custom shirts.

I’m 5′9″, 140 and could never find an off the shelf shirt that fit me properly. I went to the old chain called The Custom Shop and had some shirts made. They fit perfectly, tucked in perfectly. They also lasted longer. About five years later I reordered and shortly afterward they went out of business.

See if there’s a local source for custom shirts. You won’t regret it. If only everything fit me as well.
